When twitter goes bad..

This week twitter has really been a nightmare for me..

Problem a) A friend decided to advertise that I was abroad. This is an obvious security risk but once it’s out there it’s out there and you can’t claw it back, subsequently a conversation took place on twitter about me having a holiday so the message spread.. Pretty damn annoying.

Problem b) People started DM’ing me about problems, my inbox was being monitored by my colleagues who couldn’t get in touch with the people DM’ing me because the people DM’ing me didn’t have my email address and my colleagues don’t use twitter.

Solution: Change my twitter profile to ask people to email me instead of DM me. As for people advertising if someone is on holiday (away from home) think about it first. The people who mentioned I was away from home have had e-safety training so should know better.

My pointless PLN

I joined twitter several months ago with the aim to meet educators that shared my interest. Turns out most of the people I’m following or are following me don’t share my interests. Even though most of my followers are educators it appears that their recommended sites are not what I would recommend. This doesn’t mean that I think their input is worthless its just not appropriate for me.

The main for this is that Primary Schools don’t need access to further education sites, most twitters are HE/FE and most consultants have split roles but seem to focus less on earlier years. I guess this should of been expected.

My solution is to be a bit more brutal about who I follow so that my twitter feed doesn’t get spammed with a load of irrelevant sites and comments.

It’s not all pointless though, some people on my PLN are great and have given me some great feedback and comments helping me create some great websites and publish them in real time to the people who requested the service…

So if you’re like me, which you probably aren’t then make sure you are picky about who you follow else you will feel swamped.

WPMU plugin – All site feeds

I am in the process of feeding primary blogger to twitter. I wanted all new posts posted to primary blogger to the twitter account.

This will allow people to follow @PrimaryBlogger on twitter and get a good idea of what Primary Schools are blogging about.

There is already a Blog roll available on http://primaryblogger.co.uk but this is not available through twitter or any other aggregation service.

I will be using this plugin: http://1uthavi.adadaa.com/ada-wpmu-sitewide-feed-plugin/

This only took 5 mintues or so and is available to see here – http://primaryblogger.co.uk/full-feed/posts

Enjoy 🙂
